A Word From The President: October 2026

This article first appeared in the October 2026 edition of the SSG Multisports newsletter.
October is shaping up to be another fantastic month for SSG, with our members continuing to achieve great things both on and off the race course.
One of the highlights was the Moreton Bay Triathlon, where we had a fantastic team of athletes racing in our own backyard. It was wonderful to see so many SSG members on the start line, with plenty of personal bests, podium finishes and smiling faces throughout the morning. As we are now considered a large club, we were competing against some of the biggest clubs in Queensland and came incredibly close to a podium finish. To top it off, SSG finished 3rd in the Queensland Triathlon Series (QTS) Club Standings, a fantastic achievement that reflects the commitment and enthusiasm of our members.
Of course, race day isn’t just about the racing. The post-race BBQ, Coca-Cola, lollies and cheering each other on created an incredible atmosphere and reminded us why our club is so special. Thank you to everyone who raced, supported and helped make the morning such a memorable one. Special shout-out to Paul (Amelia’s husband), who donated his time to cooking the sausages.
This month, we have also been looking closely at water safety and how we can continue to improve the safety of our members during our ocean swims. One of our strongest recommendations is to always swim with a buddy.
To further support our members, SSG will be providing every financial member with a tow float, proudly funded by the club. This is one small way we can give back to our members while helping improve visibility and safety in the water. Thank you to those who have already been using their tow float. We have noticed a huge increase in tow floats and it has made a big difference in the water.
Tow floats are an important piece of equipment because they:
- Increase your visibility to boats, paddle craft and other swimmers.
- Make it easier for other swimmers and beach users to spot you.
- Provide a flotation aid if you need to rest during a swim.
- Help make swimmers more visible to support personnel if assistance is needed.
We encourage everyone to make wearing a tow float part of their regular ocean swimming routine. Please remember that tow floats are an additional safety measure, not a substitute for swimming with a buddy and following safe ocean swimming practices.
Collecting your tow float: You can contact me directly to arrange collection, or come and see me at one of our upcoming Sunday swims. I plan to be available at most of the upcoming Sunday sessions, with the exception of Sunday 25 October and Sunday 22 November.
Finally, I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new members who have joined SSG over the past month. It’s wonderful to see our community continuing to grow, and we hope you’ve already experienced the welcoming and supportive culture that makes our club so special. We look forward to seeing you at training, at races and enjoying a coffee afterwards.
Thank you to everyone for making SSG such an incredible club. Whether you’re chasing a podium, completing your first triathlon or simply enjoying the company of others, remember that we’re stronger together.
See you in the water, on the bike or out on the run.
