Nice weekend away at Coolangatta for the Gold Coast 50 ultra marathon. Conditions were
pretty good but of course a warm one. Race started at 5,00 am. Nice and early before it gets
too hot. Meet a few familiar faces at the start and the gun went off. Blazing start and all felt
good. Not too long however and after about 6 km I chugged my guts up. Maybe that curry
last night wasn't a good idea. Straight back into running but my insides did not feel that
good and took a bout an hour till I could handle some gels again. First 25 k in 1.56 hours and
pacing went well. Couldn't help but needed a quick toilet stop. Then it started to get hot.
Dropped off the pace a bit in the second half and needed plenty of salt tablets to keep the
legs moving. This year it was a 4 lap course but nice and flat which made it actually easy to
tick it off mentally. The half marathoners were now on Sunday and we had the course to
ourselves and it wasn't as congested. Overall a great run and course and very well
organised and supported. Finished in 4.05 hours and got into 5th in my age group. Thanks
Coolangatta for a great run.
