Race Report - Nick Dunn - QTS Round 4: Robina

I never imagined that this would be possible, however this morning I finished first in my AG to take out the Queensland Sprint Triathlon Championship .. the fact I was the fastest 50+ AG athlete is pretty cool as well

I had a really solid race, finishing a massive bike leg two minutes ahead and and that was enough to hold the field to the finish line. I was driven the entire way by Mark (3rd place), who has become a great inspiration and friend over the past few years of racing together. Given Mark beat me in this race at this course a year ago, today's effort was a great result. On the run I just kept thinking 'second effort' and that kept me moving at the pace I needed in oppressive heat before a sprint finish at the line with someone not even in my AG .. then being physically ill and feeling numb when I was told I'd finished first.

Selina also raced today, though not a championship race and finished third overall in the 45+ AG athletes .. with an improved swim, and hugely improving bike leg (Selina has Ultegra!) .. Selina is on track for Australian qualification for NZ 2028.

And for my new triathlon club, SSG MultiSports, what a wonderful group of people, so happy, friendly, encouraging and fun .. a great way to start a new chapter of my own triathlon story.
